What Changed

Apple on October 20, 2026 announced new and expanded partnerships with American suppliers under its American Manufacturing Program (AMP) for the newly launched iPhone Duo—Apple's first foldable iPhone—and the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The moves are part of the company's four-year, $600 billion commitment to U.S. manufacturing and innovation announced earlier this year. Nearly 100 U.S.-made components now go into the new iPhones, sourced from suppliers across 12+ states.

New Titanium Supply for the First Foldable iPhone

Family-owned Perryman Company in Houston, Pennsylvania will supply Grade 5 titanium for the iPhone Duo's enclosure. Perryman is investing up to $100 million over three years and will provide titanium with a minimum of 80% recycled content. The company melts, forges, and rolls titanium on-site, delivering what Apple calls "exceptional strength" and "amazing durability" for the foldable design. iPhone Duo is the first iPhone to use this titanium grade.

Variable Aperture Camera Tech for iPhone 18 Pro

Delaware-based Qnity Electronics, which joined AMP in March 2026, provides advanced films that enable the variable aperture system on the iPhone 18 Pro's 48MP Fusion Main camera. On-device AI automatically adjusts the aperture: wider in low light for more light capture, narrower in bright conditions for sharper detail. Apple describes it as the "most advanced [camera] Apple has ever made."

Expanded Partner Ecosystem

Several existing AMP partners are scaling up for the new lineup:

  • Broadcom (Fort Collins, CO): $1.5B capital investment for advanced RF components; 15+ billion U.S.-made chips over a multiyear agreement.
  • Corning (Harrodsburg, KY): Partner since the original iPhone; by end of 2026, all iPhone (including Duo) and Apple Watch cover glass worldwide will come from this facility.
  • Coherent (Sherman, TX): Supplies VCSEL lasers for Face ID and the redesigned Dynamic Island on iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max.
  • TSMC (Arizona): 100+ million chips produced for Apple in 2026 across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
  • Amkor Technology (Peoria, AZ): First high-volume U.S. packaging and test facility; ground broken September 2025; 3,500+ local jobs in Phases 1 & 2; Apple is the first customer.

Workforce and Environmental Goals

Apple's Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston, Texas (opened August 2026, 20,000 sq. ft.) serves as the company's second U.S. manufacturing learning site, training small- and medium-sized businesses in advanced manufacturing, final assembly, and PCB design. The facility also builds Apple's advanced AI servers and will begin Mac mini manufacturing in 2026. On the environmental front, Apple targets carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030, requires all direct suppliers to use 100% renewable energy for Apple manufacturing by 2030, and is increasing recycled materials across products.

What This Means for Buyers

The iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro represent the deepest integration of U.S. manufacturing in any iPhone generation to date. For consumers, this translates to devices built with cutting-edge American materials science—from recycled titanium enclosures to AI-driven camera optics—while supporting 450,000+ American jobs across all 50 states. Both models are available now through Apple's usual channels.
